Region is most commonly a geographical term that is used in various ways among the different branches of geography. In general, a region may be seen as a collection of smaller units (as in "the New England states") or as one part of a larger whole (as in "the New England region of the United States"). Regions can be defined by physical characteristics, human characteristics, and functional characteristics. As a way of describing spatial areas, the concept of regions is important and widely used among the many branches of geography, each of which can describe areas in regional terms. For example, ecoregion is a term used in environmental geography, cultural region in cultural geography, bioregion in biogeography, and so on. The field of geography that studies regions themselves is called regional geography. In the fields of physical geography, ecology, biogeography, zoogeography, and environmental geography, regions tend to be based on natural features such as ecosystems or biotopes, biomes, drainage basins, mountain ranges, soil types. From Google News Search: "Regional" How hard is it to get hired in regional airlines? Q. I'm just curious. Is it hard to get in to regional airlines as pilot? Or is it easy, like everyone can do it? Is the competition really hard among candidates who want to be a pilot in regional airlines? Or very easy??? I'm talking about recently. Please answer if you were once hired from regional airlines Thanks. I am not asking about right now. I am saying "when economy is NOT BAD" Asked by tmdngs - Wed Nov 12 19:05:43 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. Right now, any airline is tough to get into. Airlines laid off thousands of pilots within the past month or two because of the economy. Whether it's regional or not, you're going to have a hard time probably for the next 1, maybe 2 or 3 years, until the economy gets better. Lets hope gas prices don't go up again, because that would cause even more lay offs and turmoil. Answered by Jonas - Wed Nov 12 19:19:58 2008 What about being a regional pilot? Q. I saw the recent question on becoming a 747 pilot. Frankly, I don't like that sound of driving something THAT immense; it takes a lot of time to do too. Also, the hassle associated with entering another country and their regulations and the long flight time. Now what I am asking is this: What are the requirements of being a regional pilot flying 737ish aircraft in regional airlines like Southwest etc? I am really considering a job in travel and a pilot sounds good. Hows the training? How long? Is it worth it? What about your family life? I would appreciate answers from regional pilots or international alike, although anyone's helpful input would also help. Asked by m173627 - Mon Jun 11 21:07:08 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. 1) What are the requirements of being a regional pilot flying 737ish aircraft in regional airlines like Southwest etc? First off, SWA is NOT a regional. Make no mistake, they are a MAJOR U.S. carrier and one of the top paying airlines at that. Any airline that flies 737s can't really be considered a "regional". In all actuality many airlines that are called such are actually majors as they have over a billion in revenue annually (the mark of a major by the D.O.T.). The "regional" airlines like the Express & Connection carriers that feed the majors (even if they are now "majors" in their own right) generally all require: 1. A Commercial pilot certificate with instrument & multi-engine ratings 2. 1,000 hours of flight experience, 100 of… [cont.] Answered by Av8trxx - Tue Jun 12 05:57:59 2007 How do they deliver regional jets to customers?
Q. I've always wondered how they deliver regional jets to customers. Say some airline in Asia orders 20 CRJ-200s from Bombardier, which manufactures aircraft in North America. How do they deliver it to Asia? Regional-jets lack trans-oceanic range. I've heard of 717s being delivered to Hawaii by installing additional fuel tanks in the cabin, but then how do they get them across the Pacific? Ships?
