How does immigration process work from South Africa to Namibia?
Q. We are interested in migrating to Namibia. I am a South African citizen and my mother was born in Namibia and grew up there. We have visited the country regularly. Could someone please be so kind to provide us with information or refer us to a website or agency which would be able to assist us.

A. I've been dreaming of going to Namibia for years. Fly to Johannesburg (S. Africa) up to Windhoek (Namibia) and across to the Skeleton Coast. Amazingly desolate but beautiful place. Highest sand dunes in the world, fog, shipwrecks, diamond mines, friendly bushmen. Down to Cape Town, back to Johannesburg and back home again. One day...

Why is the crime rate in Namibia lower than in South Africa?
Q. Why does Namibia have a lower crime rate than South Africa? What is different there?
Asked by Snorkie - Tue May 13 03:12:49 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Have a look at this graph, virtually all African states not under Sharia Law or military rule suffer extremely high crime rates, Namibia is no exception even though the rates are materially lower than those of South Africa, where crime rates resemble those of war torn nations and can directly be traced to the ANC's so called "Liberation before Education", mass fruad and corruption and violent history and nature. The lower rate would in any event, in my opinion be the result of a less urbanised society, stricter government enforcement of laws, fewer whites to murder, rape and rob as well as a significantly lower population.

A. Namibia may be a dry land as the west of the country is desert and most of the south is semi-desert. But Namibia is one of the most beautiful countries in Africa. I am not sure about a 'severe drought' at the moment, but Namibia never had (in the latter years) water to waist. Crime in Namibia cannot been compared to South Africa. It is for sure not crime free, but which country in the world is? I grew up in Namibia and I know a lot changed since I lived there, but if I can go back to Namibia, I would seriously consider it. I would really suggest that you first do your research on job opportunities before you jump. I am not sure what the availability of jobs is. Life in Namibia is much more relaxed than life in South Africa. … [cont.]

A. Although English is the official language, both Afrikaans and German are frequently used. The white population mostly speaks Afrikaans (60%) and German (35%). You can manage well with English and German as a tourist. Spoken at home by 1.1% of Namibia's population. Many shops have German owners and you meet German speaking Namibians everywhere. There are also a few german schools. The heaviest populations of Germans are in the capital of Windhoek, the coastal cities of Swakopmund and Luederitz, and in the smaller farming communities found in the central and southwest part of the country. Many German-Namibians predict the eventual disappearance of their culture there. They confess that it's impossible to attract teachers for their… [cont.]

A. To start with, see what is the prices on Namibian Airways. I am not sure which cities in the world they service, but it cannot hurt to enquire. Then maybe you can have a look at South African Airways, although I seldom hear any good reviews on SAA service. I believe that you will have to fly with more than one airliner. Best is to visit any travel agent to do an inquiry. They will give you the best and/or cheapest option, and they do not charge for the inquiry.

Is it expensive to live in Windhoek, Namibia?
Q. I might be relocating there from the US. I've lived for a year in Germany before (I understand there's a large German population in Namibia.) But can anyone tell me what to expect? What's it like? Is it hot all the time? A bustling city? A lot of crime? What is the exchange rate in comparison to the US dollar? Cheaper or more or about the same. Free health care? Thanks all!

A. Namibia is a wonderful place, yes it is hot most of the time, and there is a large German population, the exchange rate is the same as South Africa more or less 10 Namibian $ to 1 US $.

I'm travelling to Botswana, Namibia and Zimbabwe soon. What kind of adaptors will I need and who sells them?
Q. I live in Sydney and have no problem purchasing an electrical plug adaptor for South Africa but...the other countries? Can anyone advise? Thank you.
Asked by Marghe - Wed Feb 6 18:24:15 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Botswana, Namibia and Zimbabwe, all work on the same system as South Africa, although a few out of the way places may still not have converted from fifteen amp plugs to 13 amp plugs. There are adaptors that can rectify that and they should be able to plug into the adaptor you speak of. Beware though. Zimbabwe has serious and frequent electricity and water cuts, lasting hours and even days. South Africa is also experiencing electricity cuts but nowhere near the scale of Zimbabwean. Enjoy your trip.

A. Because they are assembled in South Africa at Rosslyn with German quality control and a high % of local content. Locally manufactured cars are cheaper than imports which have exchange fluctuations, transportation costs, duties and excise taxes added on.
